If you have skin pigmentation, you might be considering a Cosmelan treatment. Cosmelan is a world-leading depigmentation treatment that is designed to reduce skin discolouration and high pigmentation. Melanin within the skin is responsible for creating skin pigment and a Cosmelan peel decreases the skin’s natural melanin production, providing an even complexion. A Cosmelan treatment carries few side effects, involves minimal pain and yields quick results.
- The Ideal Candidate for A Cosmelan Peel
Cosmelan peels are safe for all skin types and tones. It can be used for people with melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, solar and senile lentigo (dark spots from sun exposure), post acne discolouration and freckles. Your clinician will analyse your skin to determine if the Cosmelan peel treatment is right for you.
There are some pre-treatment guidelines you need to follow in the two weeks lead up to your appointment.
- No waxing of any area to be treated
- No using depilatory creams
- No laser treatments or chemical peels
- Sunscreen must be worn in summer
The skin is cleansed with an ultra-mild cleanser and then a degreasing solution is applied to aid ingredient penetration. The in-clinic mask is applied and is left to dry for 15 minutes.
You are sent home with the mask on which has to be left on the skin for 8-12 hours.
Typically, these treatments are conducted in the morning so the mask can be washed off by evening time. After the correct time period, you will need to wash the mask off and use the homecare products given to you by the clinician.
- The Peel
Peeling usually begins three days after the treatment and can last for up to two weeks. It can be tempting to peel the pieces of skin off, but you should avoid touching your face as much as possible for the best effects. You should also try and avoid direct sunlight during this time as your skin will be quite sensitive.
Most patients experience exceptional results after a Cosmelan peel. Blemishes fade, and skin takes on a bright and healthy glow. While the aftercare time is a lot longer than other skin treatments, the results are worth it.
