Stress has become a given in today’s full speed, nonstop world, and most of us have come to accept itas just part of our daily lives. Unfortunately, stress has a nasty tendency of affecting our bodies for the worse, which includes our skin. If you don’t believe us, we’ve listed some of the most prevalent issues that too much stress can cause to your skin.
It causes flare-ups and can have negative long-term effects
If you’re stressing too much, it can cause a build-up of cortisol, which is really bad for your immune system, which in turn has bad news in store for your skin. What’s worse, bad skin and stress can cause a negative feedback loop, which means you stress because you don’t look your best, which in turn makes your skin flare up again, and so the cycle repeats.
It can make your hair fall out
If you are experiencing inordinate amounts of stress, there is a chance that you can get a condition called Telogen Effluvium, which causes your hair to fall out. The cause is not entirely understood, and most scientists can only speculate that because you are experiencing such incredible amounts of stress, that your body decides it’s not worth spending the energy on your hair.
A lack of sleep due to stress makes everything worse
We all know that stress has a rather large impact on sleep. Even small doses of stress can have you losing out on precious resting time, which leaves you tired throughout the day. These aren’t the only symptoms, unfortunately, as less sleep can cause your eyes to have dark circles, look swollen and even increase signs of ageing. The only cure is to make sure you get your eight hours, which not only makes your mind happy but gives any medications and night creams time to do their job of making you look fabulous.
