How it works

The Candela GentleMax® Pro combines the best technology available to produce an innovative laser product that offers the aesthetic industry an extremely effective hair removal treatment. The GentleMax® Pro is a revolutionary new piece of technology that successfully incorporates two lasers: the Alexandrite laser (for light skin) and the YAG laser (for dark skin).

Candela-produced lasers work by focusing energy directly on the hair follicle, obliterating the hair at its root without damaging the adjoining skin. Laser energy is distributed through a hand-held instrument managed by an experienced dermal clinician.

The laser produces a concentrated beam of light, which is drawn in by the hair follicle and consequently transformed to heat. It is this heat that is responsible for eliminating the hair follicle.

The efficacy of this revolutionary laser treatment is largely due to its one-of-a-kind registered cooling system that delivers comfort, as well as excellent results for all skin types.

Frequently Asked Questions – Laser Hair Removal

Your practitioner will use a small handpiece to deliver each laser pulse. A treatment could take as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour, depending on the treatment area and the condition being treated.
Some patients may feel a slight discomfort with each laser pulse, sometimes described like the snapping of a rubber band on the skin. This discomfort resolves quickly and is minimised by the patented Dynamic Cooling Device™ (DCD™) or air cooling. If you are sensitive to pain, a topical anaesthetic may be used prior to treatment. If you have concerns, be sure to discuss this with us before your treatment begins.
Cost depends on the area and condition being treated. Call us to discuss your concerns and get a free consultation.

This depends on the treatment you require and the condition of your skin. You will need multiple treatments for hair removal. Other conditions may clear up in only one treatment, but many factors impact the efficacy of treatments, including the severity of the condition being treated.
Hair removal patients should avoid plucking, electrolysis or waxing for six weeks prior to treatment. If you have a history of herpes simplex virus, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed. Skin should be clean-shaven and thoroughly cleansed, removing any makeup, creams, oils, topical anaesthetics or self-tanning products before laser treatment. Do not expose the intended treatment area to sunlight or tanning booth light prior to or immediately after treatment. Apply sunblock (SPF 30 or above) before treatment.
A cool compress or gel pack may be applied for comfort following your treatment. Any redness or swelling should resolve within a few hours.
Prevent sun exposure by applying sunblock (SPF 30 or above). In the first few days after treatment, don’t scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers. Your practitioner may advise additional precautions.
Permanent side effects are rare, and may include redness, swelling, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, blistering and purpura (a laser bruise) in the treated area—these usually do not last more than a few days. We will always discuss potential side effects of any treatment before we begin.
Most insurance companies do not offer reimbursement for cosmetic procedures. Some carriers will, however, cover the treatment of disfiguring birthmarks such as hemangiomas. Consult your insurance carrier for conclusive information.
