Laser light therapy can alleviate several skin conditions

We’ve had remarkable success treating a host of skin texture conditions using laser light therapy. Here are a few of the more common issues we treat.

Acne

Acne can leave scars across the delicate skin of the face and neck. Some scars can be quite prominent, while others can be relatively small yet clustered pockmarks.

What is laser light therapy?

Laser light therapy treatment exposes the skin to multiple wavelengths of light in short pulses of energy. It is an alternative to laser treatments, which expose the skin to focused beams of a single wavelength.

Laser light therapy are ideal for treating a large surface area in a single session. By spreading energy across multiple wavelengths of light, laser light therapy treatments can be far less abrasive on your skin than laser alternatives. That doesn’t make them any less effective when used correctly, however, though it does mean that laser light therapy require far less downtime.

How It Works

Preparing for your laser light therapy skin rejuvenation

Prior to your treatment session, our doctors will provide you with detailed written preparation instructions to ensure you get the best possible results and that your skin recovers as quickly as possible.

The critical preparation instructions will include:

  • Shave and exfoliate the laser light therapy treatment area immediately before your appointment.
  • Arrive at your appointment with clean skin with no makeup, moisturiser, sunscreen or perfume.
  • Avoid blood-thinning medications, alcohol and strenuous exercise for at least 48 hours.
  • Avoid extended exposure to direct sunlight, and do not use tanning beds.
  • Do not use fake tan or retinoids.
Preparation

You’ll be in and out in no time at all

Our efficiency is a mark of our expertise. Your laser light therapy rejuvenation treatment session will run for approximately an hour, depending on the details of your treatment plan. Here’s how the day will run.

  • We’ll begin with an agenda review. We’ll confirm the details of your treatment to ensure you’re confident and comfortable before we begin.
  • We will give the skin around your treatment area a final sanitisation. If you’re concerned about pain or discomfort, we will apply a localised anaesthetic cream.
  • We’ll carry out the procedure, talking you through our progress as we go.
  • Following your treatment, we may ask you to remain for a brief monitoring period to ensure there are no side effects.

While your skin will be tender immediately after your treatment, you should be well enough to return to work or to any other engagements you have scheduled on the day of your treatment.

On The Day

Laser light therapy aftercare

Your laser light therapy recovery time will run for approximately a week, more or less depending on the details of your treatment.

Your doctor will give you detailed aftercare instructions that’ll tell you precisely what to do after your laser light therapy to help your tender skin heal. These instructions will include:

  • Moisturise the treatment area regularly. We recommend using Hydra-vital light moisturising gel cream.
  • Avoid prolonged direct sun exposure. Use SPF 50+ sunscreen.
  • You may notice flaking skin and hair on the treatment area. This is normal. Do not scrub, pick at, peel, pluck, wax or shave the area.
  • Avoid blood-thinning medications and alcohol for 3-4 days.

Remember that flaking skin is natural. These are simply the dead dull skin cells that the laser light therapy has erased, and they will fall away to reveal your fresh, even-toned, glowing skin beneath.

Aftercare

Laser light therapy vs chemical peel

Laser light therapy and chemical peels have several similarities. Both are used to clear away the textured and ruddy superficial layers of your skin to reveal the clear skin beneath. To choose between them, you must consider your skin type and which skin conditions you’re looking to treat.

Laser light therapy treatment is more effective at treating rosacea and melasma. Light therapy also requires significantly lower recovery time. However, chemical peels come in mild, medium or deep-penetration formulas and can be more effective at erasing deep wrinkles and blemishes.

Laser light therapy vs microneedling

Microneedling treatment, as the name suggests, uses a rapidly oscillating needle to create minute punctures across the skin. The piercing stimulates collagen production, which helps to firm and revitalise the skin. In fact, both microneedling and laser light therapy promote collagen.

The difference between the two is that microneedling is more effective at targeting specific areas of textured skin, such as scars, wrinkles, and facial features with large pores. Laser light therapy  are more effective at improving uneven complexions caused by hyperpigmentation conditions.

Our non-surgical treatments to improve skin tone and texture

It’s our responsibility to plan the path to reach your aesthetic goals. That path may include chemical peels, microneedling, injectable fillers, laser treatments, ultrasound therapy or even some combination. Rest assured that whatever we settle on, we’ll always prioritise your comfort and safety.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you wear makeup after a laser light therapy?

Yes, you can apply makeup to your skin immediately after treatment.

We do recommend that you also use a potent skin moisturiser and SPF 50+ sunscreen.

Does laser light therapy work on darker skin tones?

Under our meticulous medical supervision, laser light therapy can be effective when used on naturally dark skin. However, the darker your skin tone, the less effective the treatment will be. The reason for this is that the heat generated by the light pulses is absorbed by melanin, which is then agitated and broken up. That’s how the treatment targets skin blemishes — the greater the contrast between the blemish and the surrounding skin, the more accurate the treatment.

In darker skin, where there is little contrast between the natural skin tone and the blemish or scar, the light’s energy will be absorbed by all tissue and can cause discolouration.

At your consultation, your doctor will discern when laser light therapy are the best treatment for you or if one of our other treatments might offer better results.

Do laser light therapy hurt?

Laser light therapy treatments use light energy to generate heat, so you will feel small heat pulses. The treatment does not burn, and our clients describe the sensation as being like having a small rubber band snapping against your skin.

Do laser light therapy remove hair?

Yes, laser light therapy double as a laser hair removal treatment, and are just as effective at removing unwanted hair as they are at removing blemishes.

Can you get a laser light therapy treatment while breastfeeding?

We do not perform laser light therapy on pregnant clients. There isn’t enough available data for us to understand the effects of the treatment on parent and child. We feel that it is best not to risk it.

How many laser light therapies do I need?

That depends on your goals and the unique qualities of your skin. On average, our treatment plans recommend 2-6 sessions to achieve the best results.

How often can I get a laser light therapy?

If your treatment plan recommends multiple sessions, they will be spaced 4-6 weeks apart.

Does laser light therapy tighten skin?

Yes, they do. The collagen that laser light therapies promote is the protein that keeps your skin tissue firm and plump, so you will notice a marked improvement in the tightness and quality of your skin after treatment.
