While acne is never pleasant for anyone, for some, it manifests in severe bumps that leave itchy, painful and unsightly pockmarks and scars.
While acne is never pleasant for anyone, for some, it manifests in severe bumps that leave itchy, painful and unsightly pockmarks and scars. Our laser treatments not only remove the hyperpigmentation caused by the acne scars, but they also exfoliate the superficial layers of the skin, leaving it even, clear and soft.
Laser treatments can target blemishes because the energy of the lasers is absorbed by the dark melanin within the marks.
Laser treatments can target blemishes because the energy of the lasers is absorbed by the dark melanin within the marks. But the energy cannot differentiate between the excess melanin in the blemish and the melanin in the skin tissue. In some cases, laser treatment may not be the best way to remove marks on dark skin. Come in for an assessment, and our clinicians will assess the nature of your hyperpigmentation and suggest the best treatment.
With decades of collective experience in dermatology and training from leading Australian universities, our clinicians have earned their reputation as Melbourne’s leading skin therapy specialists.
There are several genetic, lifestyle and environmental causes of hyperpigmentation. Practically all of us have some sort of skin blemish or patchy unevenness. For some of us, the effect of those blemishes on our sense of self is simply unacceptable.
At Victorian Dermal Group, we don’t believe it’s our place to judge your decision. Our responsibility is to give you safe and effective treatments to attain bright, even-toned, healthy skin.
You'll need to visit our clinic for an initial consultation. During this 15-30 minute session, we'll discuss your medical history and any lifestyle factors contributing to your skin's condition.
From there, we'll formulate a unique treatment plan tailored specifically to your skin's health. We may suggest one of our chemical peels if the pigmentation is superficial. If it's penetrated deeper layers of your skin, we'll recommend one of our laser therapies.
At the end of the session, we'll give you a pack to take home. You can book a session while you're at the clinic or take your time and think about what works best. After all, you know your skin, and we know the science of skin.
We'll provide you with comprehensive preparation instructions after our initial consultation, but we'll summarise it here.
For at least a week after your laser treatment:
Our Vbeam Prima laser delivers an intense, highly targeted beam of light into the affected area. There, it's absorbed by blood vessels and dissolved. The in-built Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) delivers a blast of cryogen to cool the skin between pulses. This makes any potential discomfort a client may feel dissipate. Afterwards, our clients have noticed immediate results.
The laser uses light energy to exfoliate the top layers of your skin to reveal a smooth, clear complexion. It's one of our most gentle laser therapies for skin pigmentation, and we suggest it to clients who have minimal pigmentation but want to achieve an even skin tone.
For best results, we recommend a series of sessions — two to three, at a minimum. The treatment usually lasts between 30 minutes and one hour. Within 5-7 days, the old skin layers will peel and flake, revealing the bright and fresh skin layers beneath.
The PicoWay treatment is a milder treatment for superficial blemishes. Using ultra-short pulses of energy, the PicoWay laser breaks up pigmentation without traumatising the skin tissue. Your body will then naturally absorb and remove the unwanted pigmentation while also producing collagen and elastin to heal the area.
Our medical team excels at a host of skin treatment services. Talk to us about your aesthetic goals and skin health concerns, and combine our recommended treatments into a bespoke healthcare plan just for you.
You’ll hear plenty from our dermatologists at your consultation. For now, have a read of what our clients have to say about the results we deliver.
Depending on how significant the pigmentation is, we recommend a minimum of 2-3 sessions to achieve the best results. However, some clients book only one session. It's up to you and your preferences and your skin type. All of this will be discussed with you in your initial consultation.
We recommend waiting 4-6 weeks between laser therapy treatments. This allows your skin to recover completely before your next session.
Laser treatments do not permanently prevent your skin from producing pigmentation. While we can effectively remove dark patches, spots and scars, your skin may produce them again — especially if regularly exposed to sunlight without protection.
During laser treatment, our clients tell us the sensation is similar to a rubber band snapping on the skin. If you're very worried about experiencing pain, we can also apply a topical numbing cream.
You may experience swelling, redness, and tenderness post-treatment. This usually only lasts 2-3 days before healing.
Fill in the form with any questions, and we'll get back to you asap.
