Our eye treatment experts

Our clients place their trust in our medically-trained doctors, who go above and beyond to help them achieve their facial revitalisation goals.

How the treatment works

Tear trough dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid to restore volume to the hollowed area under the eyes. After developing a personalised treatment plan, your qualified doctor will cleanse the area, apply a topical numbing cream, and carefully inject dermal filler into the tear trough area. Once injected, the practitioner may gently massage the filler to ensure even distribution.

Frequently asked questions

What is tear trough filler?

Tear trough filler refers to the use of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. The treatment can help with hollowness, dark circles, or puffiness in the under-eye region (which can appear bruised due to the thin skin) by adding volume and improving the contour of the tear trough.

How long do tear trough fillers last?

Non-surgical tear trough dermal fillers typically last between four and six months, depending on the type of filler used, whether or not you have deep tear troughs, and whether you’ve had the treatment in the past (repeat fillers can last longer). Repeated treatments are recommended to maintain the volume and plumpness dermal fillers provide.

Does tear trough filler get rid of wrinkles?

Tear trough injections primarily address concerns under the eye, such as shadows and hollowness, however, they can improve the appearance of the skin and reduce the depth of fine lines in this area to some extent. If you want to alleviate eye wrinkles, talk to your practitioner during your initial consultation who may recommend combining treatments to address multiple concerns.

Are tear trough fillers safe?

As with many cosmetic procedures, there are risks involved with injecting sensitive areas such as the tear troughs. That is why it is crucial to select a qualified and experienced medical practitioner who specialises in dermal filler injections, as safety largely depends on the skill and expertise of the practitioner.

Do tear trough fillers work?

Fillers in the tear trough region can be successful, temporary treatments for those that want to enhance this area of the face without resorting to surgical procedures. Their success depends on the doctor’s qualifications and experience, the type and amount of filler used, and your facial anatomy. As the effectiveness can vary from person to person, it's essential to have a thorough consultation with a qualified practitioner to determine if these fillers are a suitable option for your unique concerns.

How much does tear trough filler cost?

The cost of dermal fillers in tear troughs depends on:

  • The amount of dermal filler required (most clinics charge by millilitre)
  • The practitioner administering the cosmetic injections and their experience
  • Consultation fees
  • The brand of filler used
  • Whether you opt for additional treatments

A qualified cosmetic doctor will discuss fees with you during your consultation.

Can tear trough filler migrate?

Tear trough dermal filler migration is a potential concern, but it is relatively rare when the procedure is performed by a skilled and experienced practitioner. Migration occurs when the filler material moves away from the direct injection site, leading to suboptimal results or potential complications. To minimise the risk of migration, choose an experienced clinician who uses filler designed for tear troughs and follow their aftercare instructions.

Does tear trough filler get rid of bags?

Tear trough treatments can indirectly improve the appearance of under-eye bags, which are caused by various factors, including fluid retention, genetics, aging, and fat herniation. Injecting fillers in and around the tear troughs help reduce the appearance of eye bags by improving the transition between the lower eyelid and the cheeks, and concealing the shadowing effect caused by deep tear troughs.
